Happy Death Day: How Many Times Does Tree Die?

Stage 2: Time For Action

As the movie's second act begins, Tree confides her story in her kinda-hookup from the previous night, Carter, who suggests she take advantage of the loop in order to figure out who killed her.

To that end, Tree makes a list of those close to her and goes about investigating them. This leads to a montage sequence which shows Tree dying numerous times in quick succession.

Firstly, she's stabbed to death when peeping into her one-time date Tim's house (where he's watching gay porn, of course); then she's drowned while using night-vision goggles to creep on Stephanie; she gets hit by a truck when wrestling with Danielle in the street; and has her brains bashed in with a baseball bat after accidentally killing her classmate Becky.

This adds another four kills to make a grand total of 7 deaths for now. While one could assume that the passage of time implied by the montage would allow a few more kills to slip by, the fact that this montage is intercut with Tree crossing all these names off her suspect list makes it pretty clear these deaths all happen on sequential days, with seemingly no deaths in-between.

Now we're at the movie's mid-way point, where a few extra wrinkles are thrown in the mix...
