Happy Death Day Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. There's A Great Montage Sequence

It's pretty much a given that any movie following the Groundhog Day formula needs to feature a montage of the protagonist working through countless days in their time loop and failing to achieve the task at hand.

Happy Death Day is certainly no exception, delivering a terrific mid-film montage set to Demi Lovato's catchy pop tune "Confident", in which Tree investigates her suspects for the killer's identity and, of course, gets herself killed numerous times in the process.

It's a weird and jarring juxtaposition but one that works exceedingly well, and this is easily the most memorable and best-directed sequence from the entire film.
