Harold Ramis RIP: His 10 Most Memorable Films

7. Analyse This (1999)

Forgetting Analyze That ever happened, Analyze This was actually a pretty funny movie. By no means was it as groundbreaking or successful as some of the earlier Harold Ramis films, but for what it was, the film was an enjoyable ninety minutes or so at the cinema, and the writing was tight and crucially raised more than enough laughs to keep attention enough to inspire the insipid sequel. The interplay between Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal is hilarious with some great on-screen chemistry between the two. The films concerns a mob boss with insecurity issues, plagued by panic attacks and his relationship with a shrink. The comedy is fresh and funny and the two main stars definitely keep the film from falling apart. But this is Harold Ramis doing what he does best and that is making us laugh. The Godfather parody in particular is among the best scenes and executed faithfully when compared to the classic Mafia movie. It is a shame that Ramis did write and indeed direct the sequel, considering the vast superiority of the original, but we can at least take something for the fact that he wasn't alone responsible for the writing.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
