Harry Potter: 10 Amazing Chapters That Aren’t In The Movies
8. Christmas On The Closed Ward (The Order Of The Phoenix)
The Order of the Phoenix adaptation is the shortest movie in the series, which is strange because the original novel is the longest of Rowling’s original tales.
Perhaps the most noteworthy absences in the adaptation are the two chapters at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Whilst the first chapter is a bit of a slog to get through, the second is much more interesting.
During a visit to the hospital, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny bump into their old Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher: Gilderoy Lockhart, whose memory was damaged down in the Chamber of Secrets. Despite his mental instability, Lockhart is still a self-centred individual who thinks he’s better than everyone else.
Whilst it’s fun to see Lockhart again, the real standout of this chapter involves Neville and his parents. Having been tortured into insanity by a gang of Death Eaters, Frank and Alice Longbottom are permanent residents at the hospital. Harry and the others see the full extent of the damage, and this scene is one of the most moving moments in The Order of the Phoenix.
Though Neville has always been a bit of a comedic character, this chapter brings his tragic past to the foreground of the story.
