Harry Potter: 10 Best Characters Introduced After The Philosopher's Stone

9. Cedric Diggory

Before starting this entry, it is important to note that Diggory's place in the Harry Potter franchise seems to only be as cannon fodder for Voldemort. But that's not a bad thing, as the series needed a sense of danger and consequences about it, and Cedric played that role to perfection. You don't have to be around for a long time to have a good time.

Diggory was introduced in The Goblet of Fire as a Hufflepuff prefect who represented Hogwarts - alongside Harry - in the Triwizard tournament. He certainly caught your attention with his popularity and charm, but at first, he seemed a little caught up in the mocking of Harry Potter. However, that didn't last long, as the pair warmed up to each other and became good friends.

Then, of course, he ended up falling victim to the killing curse after being transported to the Little Hangleton Graveyard. This was a very emotional moment for the series, and the fact that it hurt so much proved just how well crafted a character Cedric Diggory was.
