Harry Potter: 10 Best Characters Introduced After The Philosopher's Stone

6. Dolores Umbridge

Bellatrix Lestrange Wand

When a character who only appears fully in one movie and acts as a glorified cameo in others ends up taking the trophy for being the most hated villain in the series, you know you've struck gold.

Dolores Umbridge shot onto the scene in Order of the Phoenix and became the centre of that movie's narrative. She arrived as a representative of the Ministry of Magic and took over Defence Against the Dark Arts (which always goes well). Then, she eventually became High Inquisitor and Headmistress, enacting a ridiculous amount of rules and harsh punishments for trivial "crimes".

Her iconic bright pink aesthetic massively contrasted her brutish and strict standards, which essentially tortured the students of Hogwarts and established an era of totalitarianism in the school. It was some pretty heavy stuff.

While Voldemort may be the real antagonist of the series, almost everyone looks to the incomparable and tyrannical Dolores Umbridge as the most hated character in the show, thanks to how needlessly cruel she is, despite putting on such a bright face.

Not bad for someone who only came along in the fifth movie.
