Harry Potter: 10 Dumbest Things Voldemort Did
6. Not Letting Someone Else Kill Harry
Obviously, Voldemort is a passionate man and that's entirely the point of him. He's all about vengeance and making grand, theatrical gestures that seem to somewhat compromise his secrecy (like him allowing his followers to cast the Dark Mark at the World Cup, for instance) but which speak to his powers. In that respect, it's not all that surprising that he considers it his own duty to kill Harry Potter.
But it's ludicrous. Even though he didn't know the second, crucial part of the Prophecy (and thus couldn't know about their relationship) at that point, by the time they face-off in the clearing and he attempts to kill Harry, he knows of their link. He could and SHOULD have considered the reason for that link and he should have abandoned his vain need to kill Harry personally and just handed it to someone else. It's not like he didn't have evidence that it didn't work already.
He had people in Hogwarts, when Harry was unguarded (not least the fake Mad-Eye) and there were probably hundreds of ways to kill a schoolboy that didn't involve him having to cast the ceremonially important killing strike.
