Harry Potter: 10 Hardest Spells To Master
6. The Cruciatus Curse
As one of the Unforgivable Curses, no witch or wizard should ever use the Cruciatus Curse, but of course it happens. There have always been those on the dark side of magic that have no problem inflicting torture, as Bellatrix Lestrange and a few others did to Frank and Alice Longbottom.
It takes more than simply uttering 'Crucio' to perform the spell, however. The wizard casting it has to truly want to cause the harm the curse will inflict, to genuinely want to see the subject writhing in agony.
While this doesn't cause a problem for the likes of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters, it has stopped Harry from torturing in the past. After Bellatrix killed Sirius Black in the Department of Mysteries, she crossed wands with the boy who lived. After just witnessing the murder of his godfather and only family, Harry attempted to put the Cruciatus Curse on his adversary.
However, despite the rage, anger, and pain coursing through Harry's body, this still wasn't enough for the spell to work. Despite seeing what Bellatrix had just done, he still didn't truly want to inflict that much pain. Not deep down. With that being said, it must take something truly heinous to inspire the kind of emotions needed for someone to master the Cruciatus Curse.
