Harry Potter: 10 Hardest Spells To Master

3. Any Wandless Spell

Before students even step foot through the doors of Hogwarts, they learn the importance of their wand thanks to Mr. Ollivander at Diagon Alley. A witch or wizard can't walk away with just any wand, it has to be the correct one. The wand does choose the wizard after all.

However, there is a branch of magic that only the most skilled can achieve, that requires absolutely no wand at all.

In theory, for a witch or wizard to perform magic, they don't need to use a wand. Instead, it is used as an instrument through which their craft can be channeled. This is why getting the right wand in the first place is so important, and why when Ron was using a broken wand, everything kept going wrong.

But there are some witches and wizards, like Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort (and somehow Dobby the House Elf), who have become so greatly skilled in wizardry, that they have evolved past the need for a wand to channel their magic. However, considering the catastrophic results that can come from attempting it, this kind of skill should only be exercised when absolutely necessary.
