9. A History Of Magic
Ok, so it's a bit dry, and forms the required reading for a hated Hogwarts class. Professor Cuthbert Binns' classes were notorious as the most boring in the whole school and Binns himself was a spectacularly dull teacher who didn't realise he was dead when he fell asleep in front of the staff room fire, so it doesn't really look good for A History Of Magic at this point. Yet just because the gatekeeper might be dull, it doesn't necessarily mean that the park is. Rest assured, the history of Rowling's universe is littered with awesome things hidden behind that blazing monotony. Remember, though they found the class dull, Harry and his classmates got to write about things such as Goblin Rebellions, and Rowling made a special point in Order Of The Phoenix of suggesting that in the right hands, the lessons might've been interesting. Just check out this quote from the book.
"Non-magic people (more commonly known as Muggles) were particularly afraid of magic in medieval times, but not very good at recognising it. On the rare occasion that they did catch a real witch or wizard, burning had no effect whatsoever. The witch or wizard would perform a basic Flame Freezing Charm and then pretend to shriek with pain while enjoying a gentle, tickling sensation. Indeed, Wendelin the Weird enjoyed being burned so much that she allowed herself to be caught no less than forty-seven times in various disguises."
Doesn't that sound ridiculously awesome, and the kind of thing you'd like to see on-screen? Picture it a whistle-stop tour of the most insane parts of Wizarding History, all gathered together in a loose plot. They're seems to be doing the same for an animal-based spin-off, so why not delve further into the past?
