8. Flying With The Cannons
I must admit, I loved the film version of the Quidditch World Cup. The cavernous stadium with its amazing box-seats was incredibly well-realised, what action we saw looked good, and the film-makers obviously had a ball of a time sticking it on-screen. It's well-documented that some of the Quidditch props for this film (namely, the match programmes) were crafted in astounding detail, so once more, it's clear that the old team behind the Potter series had a good handle on the glorious fictional sport. So why not do it all over again, focusing on Flying With The Cannons. Scribed by Julius DeHoffe and given to Ron by Harry for Christmas in The Chamber Of Secrets, it focuses on Chudley Cannons' 1992 Quidditch season. Seeing as the Cannons appear to be constantly described as awful, you could argue that they offers that most unlikely thing in the Potter Universe (Potterverse?) the opportunity for an underdog sports movie. I know, I know. That sounds mental, right? But please, indulge me. You can make a good movie out of any sport, so why not a fictional one? Yes, it's probably going to be cliché (as most sports movies tend to be), but taking to the skies for constant special effects-laden Quidditch matches would be an interesting way to blast some whizz-bangery into an occasionally stale genre. If the writers could make us care about the Cannons, they might have the perfect storm of sports-film-making excellent set-pieces (probably a given with Quidditch) and solid characterisation, and frankly, I've seen movies with far less. Hell, it's already a picture book, so it's pretty much come already gift-wrapped for the movie treatment.
