Harry Potter: 10 Magical Potions With CRAZY Effects
7. Baruffio's Brain Elixir
Effect: Increases the drinker's brain power.
Seen In: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (novel), Fantastic Beasts: Cases From The Wizarding World, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Now here's a controversial one. First mentioned in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Baruffio's Brain Elixir, supposedly, will buff the mental capacity of the consumer and make them smarter. Sounds great, right? The only problem is, there are those who doubt that it actually works as described.
In Fantastic Beasts: Cases From The Wizarding World, skilled potion-maker Gethsemane Prickle calls the brew "seriously incompetent", claiming that it is more likely to melt the brain of the drinker than give them any positive effects.
Adding to the mystery surrounding the potion's usefulness is the fact that we didn't get to see it in action in the main Potter books. In the aforementioned fifth novel, Harry and Ron are offered some by fellow student Eddie Carmichael, who claims that the Elixir was responsible for his outstanding performance in his exams. However, Hermione confiscates the potion and pours it down the toilet.
More recently though, in Pokémon Go clone Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the potion awards the player with additional XP, implying that it works as intended. So who knows! Maybe it depends on how well it's brewed, or the intelligence of the drinker.
