Harry Potter: 10 Most Hated Characters

Certainly the most pathetic character in the series. Making his first appearance in The Chamber of Secrets, Lockhart's charming manner and celebrity status has a swooning effect on a few female characters. In his books, he claims to be a great wizard with dazzling feats and accomplishments under his belt. Harry seems skeptical about his genius - especially after a certain bone fixing error.

This skepticism is turns out to be valid, when it is revealed that Lockhart is a fake and a fraud. He tricked genuinely great wizards into telling their stories, before erasing their memories and passing off their stories as his own.

His knack with memory charms literally backfires, however. He uses Ron's broken wand to erase our heroes' memories once they find out his secret. He is next seen at St Mungo's Hospital in The Order of the Phoenix, having never regained his sanity. This scene is a little tragic, and makes it difficult to truly hate him.
