Harry Potter: 10 Most Powerful Gryffindor Students Ranked
4. Minerva McGonagall
It should go without saying that the head of Gryffindor House while Harry, Ron, and Hermione were at Hogwarts was one of the finest witches the house ever produced during her own time. Minerva McGonagall's loyalty to the scarlet and gold dated back to her own childhood.
Like Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black, she was a registered animagus. She performed the proper chants and the correct procedures at the perfect time to allow herself the ability to transform into a cat at will, which is something that very few other witches or wizards could achieve.
Her transfiguration classes highlighted her prowess at this particular branch of magic, as she was able to achieve such things without a wand. Even with a wand this would be difficult to master, but McGonagall makes it look easy, as she does with duelling, defeating both Alecto Carrow and Severus Snape in single combat.
Like many others, her crowning glory came during the Battle of Hogwarts. With Dumbledore gone, Professor McGonagall led the resistance against Voldemort, charmed the stone knights of the castle, and fiercely defended the grounds herself. There aren't many that could go toe to toe with this witch on her best day.
