5. Great Potential for Tie-in Video Games
Following on from my theme park point, a film is a great way to get free advertising/marketing for your tie-in projects. When I was growing up,we played Subbuteo, where we flicked our little plastic players at the plastic ball and tried to score a goal on the fake cloth pitch, which always crumpled no matter how much you smoothed it out. Nowadays, people love their video games - evidenced by how many millions of views that GTA articles have received on this website. There have been many games based on the Harry Potter books and movies and people show no sign of getting bored. When a studio is looking to green-light a project, apart from the production budget itself, and who they can get to attach, one big factor is: how can we generate more money on the back-end? Piracy is rampant in the film industry; millions of dollars, which would have gone back into the business, are lost. Video games are another way of generating income. A Quidditch movie, and resultant 3D video game, where you feel that you're flying, would be rather popular, I think.
