Harry Potter: 10 Times JK Rowling Admitted To Changing Her Plans

1. Arthur Weasley Was Going To Die

Harry Potter Ron Weasley RIP
Warner Bros.

In Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Ron's father Arthur Weasley is attacked by Voldemort's giant and terrifying snake Nagini. He ends up bitten, bleeding and unconscious, but alive. Harry is seen as a hero once again by the family, and his bond to them becomes even tighter.

But this was not the original plan.

The attack took place as it was meant to be the death of Arthur. In a line that has often been quoted out of context for its sensational sound, Rowling once explained, "I wanted to kill parents." She explained further that what she intended was for other parents to die, just like Harry's had, to reinforce the point that Voldemort was as evil as he had ever been.

The reason he lived, however, is that she became very much attached to him. β€œI think part of the reason for that is there were very few good fathers in the book,” the author explained. β€œIn fact, you could make a very good case for Arthur Weasley being the only good father in the whole series.”

And kill parents she did. Lupin and Tonks were killed, most likely in exchange, to make the point that Arthur's death was always meant to and to hammer home the losses of war.

Which plans do you wish had been kept? Let us know down in the comments.
