Harry Potter: 10 Times JK Rowling Admitted To Changing Her Plans

5. Other Titles For Goblet Of Fire

Another of the books which had a change in the planned title was the fourth.

The original was almost set in stone until it was leaked. This version was Harry Potter And The Doomspell Tournament - which does sound as though it was in need of revision. It just isn't as mythical-sounding as the rest. It must have gotten out rather early (or perhaps the aforementioned deadline issues worked to the advantage of the title) because the entire Doomspell Tournament was of course renamed to become The Triwizard Tournament as a result.

After that, it seemed that the two options - Harry Potter And The Triwizard Tournament and The Goblet Of Fire - were in line for publication with equal chances. Rowling settled with Goblet because (via EW), "In the end, I preferred 'Goblet of Fire' because it’s got that kind of ”cup of destiny” feel about it, which is the theme of the book."
