Harry Potter: 10 Weird Rules A Student At Hogwarts Must Follow
4. Boys Cannot Enter The Girls Dormitories, But Girls Can Enter The Boys
Needless to say - as seen from previous entries - the school has some intensely strict regulations regarding the dormitories and intermingling between pupils. While the rules placed upon cross-house intermingling is weird enough, it gets even stranger when the segregated genders are taken into account, especially seeing as there seems to be a double standard with the rules.
It's revealed early in the books that Harry and Ron cannot enter the female dormitory to see Hermione due to a spell which blocks boys from entering. However, there is no such spell stopping Hermione from making it into their abodes, which seems to be an oversight.
While it may be somewhat common for boarding schools to enforce such laws, it seems particularly strange to have a magical interlude that physically blocks boys from entering the dorms. What if there is an emergency? What if a girl wants to bring a boy back to show him her book collection?
Most egregious of all is the lack of equilibrium. If you're going to enforce these segregated dormitories, then why not make it go both ways? Overall, it's a rule that almost makes sense, but lacks logic.
