Harry Potter: 12 Best Supporting Characters

10. Dobby

Dobby House Elf
Warner Bros.

It's a testament to the lasting impression Lucius Malfoy's former house-elf leaves that he makes the cut here despite featuring just twice across the film franchise, in sharp contrast to his far more expansive role in the books where he becomes one of Harry's most trusted confidants during the events of Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.

Much of it is down to Toby Jones' wonderful work across his two appearances in Chamber of Secrets and Deathly Hallows - Part 1, with the veteran British character actor bringing both a downtrodden nervousness and, later, a giddy free-spiritedness to the role. Even in a reduced capacity, Dobby is still one of the staunchest allies to Harry throughout, with his ultimate sacrifice proving one of the series' more devestating rug-pulls.
