Harry Potter: 15 Spells Ranked From Weakest To Strongest
11. The Confundus Charm (Confundo)
Cast using the incantation Confundo, the Confundus Charm allows the caster to momentarily confuse and disorientate their target. The spell has varying levels of strength; sometimes, the target loses their ability to remember things, or can be easily moved around.
The best use of the Confundus Charm in the series has to go to Hermione, who casts it to stop Quidditch hotshot Cormac McLaggen from overshadowing Ron during team try-outs in The Half-Blood Prince.
It's also been used by Snape, Newt Scamander and, infamously, by Barty Crouch Jr, who cast it to trick the Goblet of Fire into accepting Harry's name for the Triwizard Tournament.
A devious and even cruel spell, the Confundus Charm can either be remarkably damaging or mischievously harmless. Whatever the case, its ability to confuse both people and magically protected objects makes it very powerful indeed.
