How she died: Killing Curse Who killed her: Death Eater Why it is emotional: Hedwig represents Harry's wizarding journey, particularly his first steps at the discovery of who he really is. Bought as a birthday present by Hagrid, the owl was the one constant companion that Harry during the lonely summer weeks, and she was his reminder of the wizarding world existing beyond his personal despair. In that respect she represented what was waiting for him back at Hogwarts during his holidays at the Dursleys. In other words, Hedwig was hope, and seeing her slain was an early indication that all bets were off in the final two films. Anyone could die.
