How he died: Killing Curse Who killed him: Lord Voldemort Why it is emotional: Okay, so it wasn't really Harry that died, but the horcrux; the part of Voldemort living inside of him. But the horcrux has to be destroyed beyond repair and that was technically Harry, and by the internal logic of the books, he did genuinely have to die to destroy it. After all he does go to the waiting area for the 'afterlife' with Dumbledore even if he decided to go back and not be reunited with his parents. Hagrid carrying Harry's 'dead' body back for the Hogwarts forces to see was an awful, haunting moment, regardless of Harry's deception.
