How he died: Killing Curse Who killed him: Lord Voldemort Why it is emotional: Mad Eye was a tough cookie, having duelled in a number of wizarding wars and battles. The scars on his face and body are a physical representation of the danger that he actively put himself into in order for good to triumph over evil. That his heroism would ultimately kill him was somewhat fitting, but no less hard to take. Moody was a brave Auror and a good friend to Harry (even if he did come across as cantankerous and grumpy) and ultimately, it was his determination to protect Harry which led to his death.
