Harry Potter: 5 Stupid Acts Committed By Ravenclaws

Not every Ravenclaw is a genius... clearly!

J.K. Rowling created four Hogwarts Houses – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. As the main trio were all in Gryffindor, the members of this house received the most attention. But those in Slytherin also had plenty of time in the limelight as they tended to be the most villainous characters.

Those in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, on the other hand, tended to be peripheral characters. Luna Lovegood, for instance, was the most prominent member of Ravenclaw, yet she didn’t even make an appearance until The Order of the Phoenix. What’s more, Luna wasn’t exactly a typical Ravenclaw owing to her bizarre views and her strange mannerisms.

Rowena Ravenclaw – the founder of Ravenclaw – valued wisdom and creativity above all else. Indeed, Garrick Ollivander and Professor Flitwick (who were both sorted into Ravenclaw) were amongst the wisest and most talented individuals in the Harry Potter series.

But despite Rowena Ravenclaw’s emphasis on wisdom, those sorted into Ravenclaw were still capable of acting foolishly from time to time. In fact, there were several times throughout Harry’s adventures where the decisions made by Ravenclaws had disastrous consequences...

5. Xenophilius Lovegood – Betrayed Harry, Ron And Hermione

Xenophilius did not take to Voldemort’s new regime and voiced his opinions in his own magazine known as The Quibbler. In response, the corrupt Ministry punished Xenophilius by capturing Luna and imprisoning her inside Malfoy Manor.

As such, when Harry, Ron and Hermione arrived at the Lovegood’s home, Xenophilius took the opportunity to try and win back his daughter. He promptly sent a letter to the Ministry and informed them about who was inside his house whilst simultaneously doing his utmost to keep his guests from leaving.

Though Xenophilius had a perfectly understandable motive, his decision to betray our heroes was still incredibly foolish. Luna would have been distraught at the idea of her father betraying her friends, and the Death Eaters would probably have kept her captive no matter what Xenophilius offered them.
