With the help of the Half-Blood Prince’s copy of Advanced Potion Making, Harry was able to create the Draught of Living Death with ease. As a reward for his near-perfect potion, Professor Slughorn gifted him a small vial of Felix Felicis.

Given said potion made the drinker temporarily lucky, Harry kept it hidden in his dormitory with the intention of drinking it at the most opportune moment. But as the months passed by, it seemed as if his vial of Felix Felicis would never be used.

Though Ron and Hermione both knew about the lucky potion, it was the former who had the realisation that Harry could use it to obtain an important memory from Slughorn. Ron’s advice worked remarkably well, and in a matter of hours, Harry had completed a supposedly impossible task.
