Harry Potter: 5 Times Ron Was Smarter Than Hermione
1. When He Defeated Professor McGonagall’s Giant Chess Set – The Philosopher’s Stone
There were many obstacles and challenges guarding the Philosopher’s Stone. Fluffy, the Devil’s Snare, and the winged keys all caused problems for Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Yet their most terrifying challenge was Professor McGonagall’s giant chess set. In addition to their intimidating size, the chess pieces also attacked their opposition without mercy and didn’t care whether they attacked another piece or a real person.
Both Harry and Hermione were next to useless when it came to tackling this challenge. It was Ron who used his experience and knowledge of chess to take down the enemy pieces. What’s more, he was able to combine his intellect with his bravery towards the end of the game when he willingly sacrificed himself in order to secure victory.
Had it not been for Ron’s prowess at chess, neither Harry nor Hermione would have had a chance at proceeding with their quest. Though Ron had many outstanding moments throughout the series, this was his finest hour.
