Harry Potter: 7 Biggest Problems With The Philosopher’s Stone

4. The Trio Forget They’re Not Meant To Be Out At Night

Towards the end of The Philosopher’s Stone, Harry, Ron and Hermione visit the gamekeeper’s cabin and witness the birth of Norbert the Dragon.

Soon after, they walk back up to the castle. The three of them talk openly as they head for the Gryffindor Common Room, and – unsurprisingly – they’re caught by Professor McGonagall.

The movie tries to imply that they were only caught because Malfoy snitched on them, but frankly, the trio should have known better.

Why didn’t they bring the Invisibility Cloak? That would have prevented them from being caught immediately. And if you’re going to snoop around Hogwarts at night, you should at least have the sense to keep your mouth shut, rather than strolling about the corridors like it’s the middle of the day.

Considering Hermione’s supposed to be the cleverest student in Harry’s year, it’s hard to believe she of all people would be so careless, particularly given her obsession with school rules.
