Harry Potter: 7 Biggest Problems With The Philosopher’s Stone

3. Madam Hooch Can’t Referee Quidditch

“Now, I want a nice clean game…from all of you.” – Madam Hooch.

Madam Hooch was clearly lying when she made this pronouncement. Despite the foul play from the Slytherin team, she does absolutely nothing for the entire game.

As well as the constant pushing and shoving from the players in green, Oliver Wood – the Gryffindor captain – is knocked unconscious by a Bludger when he hasn’t even got the Quaffle. And worst of all, Angelina Johnson is forced into a wooden stand and then plummets to the ground. Though she makes a full recovery, her accident could easily have been fatal.

Yet amongst all the chaos, Madam Hooch doesn’t punish a single player. She just sits back and watches the violence without a care in the world.

She turns up at the end to announce Gryffindor’s victory – and that’s it. If she’d bothered to do her job properly, a lot of injuries could have been avoided.
