Harry Potter: 7 Biggest Problems With The Philosopher’s Stone

1. Harry Doesn’t Do Any Magic

Harry Potter is the story of a young orphan who discovers he’s a wizard and goes to learn magic at a fantastical boarding school. You’d have thought, therefore, that Harry would perform a lot of spells whilst at school – but he doesn’t, at least not in his first year.

The only genuine magic Harry does in the entire movie is in Ollivander’s wand shop. Sure, he attempts the Wingardium Leviosa charm and spends plenty of time on his broomstick, but Hermione does all the major spell work.

She fixes Harry’s glasses, opens locked doors, sets Snape’s robes on fire, attacks Neville, and defeats the Devil’s Snare. Her two best friends, meanwhile, just watch in awe as she outclasses them in almost every way.

Whilst Hermione is undoubtedly the most powerful member of the trio when it comes to magical ability, it’s hard to forgive the filmmakers for such a vast oversight. Harry – as the rest of the series proves – has bags of magical talent, and it would’ve been nice to see this from the outset.
