Though he did fight on the front lines for the Order during the second wizarding war, and he participated in the Battle of the Seven Potters with Hermione by his side, it was Kingsley Shacklebolt's high ranking within the Ministry that allowed him to help the Order in ways the others couldn't.

Acting as an inside agent at the Ministry, Shacklebolt was not only able to provide the Order with classified information, he also fed the Ministry lies about the whereabouts of Sirius Black. On top of this, he was able to protect the British Prime Minister from any harm that would come his way from Lord Voldemort.

As well as crossing paths with the Dark Lord in the skies while moving Harry from Privet Drive, the Auror also dueled with him during the Battle of Hogwarts, next to Professor McGonagall and Professor Slughorn. Despite all this, Shacklebolt's greatest contribution to the Order was the warning he sent to Bill and Fleur's wedding.

In the books he sent his Patronus, in the movies it was a wisp of blue smoke, but in both he let the Order know that the Ministry of Magic had been taken by the Death Eaters, and that they were all under threat. Without this warning, who knows how many lives would have been lost, including Harry, Ron, and Hermione's.
