Harry Potter: Fan-Casting The Inevitable Cursed Child Movie

7. Damian Lewis As Ron Weasley

Charlie Cox Harry Potter
Showtime

Why He's Right For The Role

Damian Lewis is one of those actors that never receives heaps of praise, but always delivers, that everybody knows, but nobody knows the name of. Isn't that a perfect parallel of Ron Weasley?

Ron has always struggled to find his place between the brilliance of Hermione and the fame of Harry, and that continues in Cursed Child. He assists where he can and remains constantly loyal, but it's his one-liners and easy-going personality that stand out, not necessarily his actions.

The actor needs bags of charm then, and a playful twinkle in his eye - Lewis has both. And, whether it's in dramas like Homeland, action flicks like Stormbreaker or even comedies like Your Highness, he never has a bad day at the office.

He's in his forties too, and the right age to play an older version of Ron - the fact that he's already ginger is just an added bonus.

Chances Of It Happening

He's currently starring in Showtime's Billions opposite Paul Giamatti, with the second season set this premiere this February - and his availability all depends on how well that goes.

If it's received as positively as the first season it may get renewed for a third, then a fourth, and that clouds his schedule for the next few years.

He's also focusing on TV at the minute with very few recent movie roles, so perhaps a huge part like this would not be of interest to him.
