Harry Potter New TV Show: 25 Castings That Must Happen

21. Andrew Scott As Rufus Scrimgeour

Cornelius Fudge's successor was hardened ex-Auror Rufus Scrimgeour, and while he was better than his predecessor, that was only by a hair. He was still an incompetent and self-centred leader, although he did have a more redemptive ending. Before he was murdered by Voldemort, his final act was to protect Harry.

This character was completely mishandled in the films, in which he was played by Bill Nighy. After being cut from The Half-Blood Prince, he was a non-entity once he finally arrived.

Looking to the future, however, Andrew Scott would be an ideal actor to give this character - who was rather interesting in the books - a good onscreen interpretation. Much like Peter Capaldi, he's a frequently intimidating actor with great screen presence and one hell of a powerful gaze, but his emotional range as an actor would allow him to authentically portray the character's selfishness and internal weaknesses.

He might be well-known as a pretty fearsome actor - which is mainly thanks to his terrifying performance as Moriarty in Sherlock - and he'd certainly be able to capture this character's hardened nature, but he can play fragile and vulnerable characters very well too.
