Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: Everything We Know So Far

3. An Albus Dumbledore Cameo (Sort Of)

Due to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them being set such a long time before the events of the Harry Potter movies, there won't be any cameos for characters from that franchise. However, producer David Heyman has confirmed that at least one line of dialogue in the movie is going to mention a promising young wizard named Albus Dumbledore. Could that be setting the stage for a young version of the beloved character to appear in the sequels? Well, an Easter Egg in The Prisoner of Azkaban revealed that Newt was at Hogwarts during the events of that movie (look closely and you'll see his name on the Marauder's Map). Assuming he was there to visit Dumbledore, that definitely points to these two being friends. Further evidence supporting that is the fact that Dumbledore wrote the foreword for Newt's book, and that reads: "I was deeply honoured when Newt Scamander asked me to write the foreword for this very special edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." There has to be some history there then, and while you can understand why Rowling would keep Potter characters out of this first instalment in order to not overshadow Newt and the rest of the newly introduced characters, don't be remotely surprised to see a young Albus show up somewhere down the line...
