Madam Hooch teaches new students how to fly a broomstick and play Quidditch. She also referees Quidditch matches between competing houses throughout the year.

Though she does feature in every book apart from The Deathly Hallows, her most memorable moment is probably Harry’s first flying lesson. She teaches the class how to grasp their brooms, then spends the rest of the lesson looking after Neville following his rather amusing accident. It’s a funny scene, but once it’s over, Madame Hooch becomes a background character for the rest of the series.

As for the movies, she doesn’t even make an appearance after The Philosopher’s Stone. It doesn’t really matter, of course – she’s not an important character. But it would have been nice to see her a bit more often.
