Harry Potter: Ranking Every Major Magical Family From Worst To Best

5. The Potters

Not much is known about the Potters outside of Harry, James, and Lily, but the story of these three individuals is fascinating enough on its own.

Harry – as the titular character of the series – is obviously the most prominent member of the family. Despite being the hero of the story, however, there are some who criticise him for being a slightly bland protagonist. Whilst he’s far from the most popular character in the series, he certainly isn’t bland. Indeed, the book version of Harry is much more rebellious and sassier than his movie counterpart.

And whilst Harry’s character arc isn’t as dramatic as other characters (such as Hermione or Neville), there’s still an evolution. His leadership skills develop dramatically in The Order of the Phoenix, and his lack of fear when confronting Voldemort during the final showdown is also a sign of his growth throughout the series.

Obviously, James and Lily are featured much less than their son, but they’re still intriguing. James’s arc from an arrogant show-off to a caring father is an interesting evolution despite how little we see of it. And as for Lily, though she doesn’t undergo a particularly dramatic change, her natural kindness and her final sacrifice make her an easy character to admire.
