Harry Potter: Ranking Every Major Magical Family From Worst To Best
4. The Malfoys
Draco, Lucius, and Narcissa are all immensely proud of their pure-blood heritage. They also dislike Muggle-borns and blood traitors and they aren’t afraid to show it either.
Of course, Draco is the most prominent of the three. And throughout the series, he routinely quarrels with Harry. He rarely misses an opportunity to throw insults and his sanctimonious tone makes him one of the most unlikeable of Rowling’s characters.
However, he is given much more depth in The Half-Blood Prince. Burdened by the task set for him by Voldemort, Draco starts to crumble under the strain, and the fragile side of his character comes to the fore.
Draco’s parents are also much more complex than they initially appear to be. Lucius – despite being one of the Dark Lord’s most prominent Death Eaters – is rather relieved when his master eventually falls. He may be proud of his pure-blood ancestry, but it’s clear he doesn’t approve of Voldemort’s plan to violently purge the magical world.
As for Narcissa, she directly disobeys her master during the finale of The Deathly Hallows by falsely claiming Harry to be dead. The need to find her son is the primary motivation for this act of deceit, and as such, it’s clear she values her family far more than her master.
