Harry Potter: Ranking Every Movie Ending From Worst To Best
4. The Goblet Of Fire
The finale at the end of The Goblet of Fire also has two central elements to it – the Third Task, and Voldemort’s resurrection in the graveyard.
The former is undoubtedly a vast simplification of Rowling’s original depiction. Though there’s no giant spiders, bogarts, blast-ended skrewts, or sphinxes in the movie adaptation, the Third Task is still well done for the most part. The atmosphere is especially good, and in contrast to the book, the movie really makes the maze feel as if it’s alive.
As for the graveyard scene, Voldemort’s resurrection has plenty of suspense. It even feels like a horror film at times thanks to some gruesome imagery and the creepy soundtrack. It’s also a thrill to experience Ralph Fiennes’ opening monologue which is both frightening and entertaining.
Sure, the central conflict between Harry and Voldemort is a little mundane given the two of them are literally just pointing their wands at one another, but given what happened in the book, the filmmakers didn’t have much choice.
The maze may be a little simplistic compared with the book, but aside from that, the end of The Goblet of Fire is practically flawless.
