Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: 12 HUGE Changes To The Battle Of Hogwarts

11. Malfoy, Goyle And... Zabini?

You'd be forgiven for not knowing who the character on the right of Malfoy is in this picture, and that's because he's a fairly minor Slytherin character even in the books.

Blaise Zabini, named only once onscreen in Half Blood Prince as he smirks at Malfoy on the Hogwarts Express, takes the physical role of Malfoy's loyal follower Vincent Crabbe in the film adaptation for pretty wild real life reasons.

Jamie Waylett, the actor who portrayed Crabbe up until Half Blood Prince, was arrested on drug and deadly weapon charges and sentenced to community service in 2009, making him unavailable for fulfilling the pretty major role his character plays in this story. He was later imprisoned in 2012 for taking part in the 2011 London riots.

Zabini is essentially a placeholder to not make Malfoy's protective barrier look unbalanced, as Crabbe's role in the book is given to Goyle instead. While the film sees Goyle stupidly set the Room of Requirement ablaze with fiendfyre, it is Crabbe who does this in the book, and both cronies die by falling into the flames in their respective adaptations depending on who set the fire.

While Goyle survives the Battle of Hogwarts in the book, his taking over of Crabbe's role in the movie means he dies instead, and Crabbe is mysteriously MIA.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
