9. Augustus Rookwood
During the First Wizarding War, Augustus Rookwood was a spy for the Dark Lord. He worked in the Department of Mysteries and gave Voldemort information about the inner workings of the Ministry of Magic.
Though he initially avoided capture, Rookwood’s true allegiance was revealed during the trial of Igor Karkaroff. He was then sent to Azkaban and remained there for fourteen years. But like many other Death Eaters who were arrested in the First Wizarding War, Rookwood escaped in early 1996 due to the Dementors' increasing disillusionment with Cornelius Fudge and the rest of the Ministry.
He returned to the Department of Mysteries several months later and gave chase to Harry and the other DA members with the hope of procuring the prophecy. But just like Avery, Crabbe, and Nott, he ended up in Azkaban again after being overpowered by the Order of the Phoenix.
Following the second mass breakout in the summer of 1997, Rookwood continued working for the Dark Lord. Though not much is known about his activity in The Deathly Hallows, he did partake in the Battle of Hogwarts and was taken down by Aberforth before returning to Azkaban for the third time.
