20 Recent Movie Moments EVERYONE Hated

Even if you can get over the recent Moana remake's thunderous lack of "necessity," what truly sealed its fate was an utter lack of the original animation's charm, in large part because the visuals were so damn flat by comparison.

For one, it lacked the colourful vibrancy of the 2016 original for the most part, too often leaning into that "realistic" grey sludge aesthetic that's dominated so much of the art direction for Disney's recent live-action remakes.

But the real killer here is the overuse of green screens, of having the actors badly composited into naff-looking, video game-y digital backdrops that don't ever convince us we're watching Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga'aia on an actual island.

The irony is that much of Moana was filmed on the real Hawaiian island of Oʻahu, yet the end result is so sterile and clean-looking you could easily believe the majority of it was shot on an air-conditioned soundstage. Just woeful.
