Have you heard of PVC-1?
This Colombian indie film looks mighty interesting.
Latino Review today I immediately thought that the film in question would be some kind of S&M fest. Man was I wrong! PVC-1 is a Colombian film shot in ONE TAKE by first timer Spiros Stathoulopoulos. An incredible achievement in itself, it took Stathoulopoulos 3 months of training to get physically fit enough to operate the steadicam for the film's one 85 minute take. The plot revolves around a kidnapped mother who's turned into a human time bomb when terrorists strap a PVC explosive device around her neck.
We wanted to create a compelling and valuable independent film and use it as a vehicle to highlight the problem of terrorism to a global audience. We chose to tell the story of one mother to represent all the innocents who randomly find themselves the victims of sinister forces, said director StathoulopoulosThe film caused a splash at this years Cannes, winning the 2007 Premio Citta di Roma - Arcobaleno Latino and bringing the director to Hollywood's attention. This is an innovative, vibrant example of indie filmmaking that reminds me of Robert Rodriguez selling himself to medical research to fund EL MARIACHI.
