Heath Ledger: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Jakob Grimm - The Brother's Grimm
The Brothers Grimm had a woefully troubled production, with director Terry Gilliam and producers the Weinstein's not quite seeing eye to eye. Youd expect Gilliam would be used to such clashes (he had to take out full page ads in newspapers to get Brazil released), but hed never come up against Harvey and Bob. So naturally the film ended up being a neutered mess, with style not only dominating over substance, but story as well. Acting as a fictional backstory to the creators of the modern fairytale, the film has Ledger and Matt Damon as the titular brothers, in this world con artists who get wrapped up in real magic. Both lead actors play things rather broad (the accents are eye-rollingly generic), with Ledger being uncharacteristically uninteresting - he has an odd character trait of holding his head down. You have to assume anything interesting he did was drowned out in the production issues.
