Hellboy Reboot: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

8. It's Adapting One Of Mignola's Greatest Stories

With a twenty five-year history to boast, there isn't exactly a shortage of great Hellboy tales out there. The inspiration behind the upcoming film, however, is an interesting one, considering it comes during the character's twilight years.

The story, titled The Storm and the Fury, comes at a point in Hellboy's life where he's resigned from the B.P.R.D. and is embarking on a shamanic-style journey across Europe. His travels bring him back to England, where he's reacquainted with Alice Monaghan (Sasha Lane in the film) - the child he rescued in the Chained Coffin collection - and before you know it, he's named as the descendant of Arthur and the rightful King of England.

There he must fight Nimue - the eponymous Blood Queen from the upcoming film - and lead an army of the undead against her. It doesn't end well, and, without spoiling anything, it places the character in a situation once thought impossible years prior.

We know for a fact that the B.P.R.D. will be featuring in the reboot, so it's unlikely that we'll be getting a beat for beat adaptation of the last Hellboy story. However, one of the best things about the arc is that it provides a new lore for audiences to rally behind, and in that sense an origin too.

It's hard to think of a bad Hellboy tale, but if we were to name the best to have featured the character, The Storm would, undoubtedly, rank very high indeed.
