It worked in the Del Toro films, but Hellboy's relationship with the fiery Liz Sherman did not exist in the comics, and the movie reboot should avoid rekindling it.

Sure, the pair are close friends in the source material, but the pyrokinetic heroine needs room to develop as a character independently of 'Ol Red.

In the Dark Horse comics, she's proven more than capable of acting as a leading lady, and her ability to do this in the new movie is imperative if the filmmakers have ambitions to launch an expanded BPRD movie universe.

Let's hope Liz and the rest of her BPRD teammates make the cut in the reboot, albeit on cooler terms with Big Red.
