Hellraiser Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. Ben Lovett's Eerie Musical Score
One of the most distinctive aspects of the original Hellraiser is Christopher Young's epic operatic score, which worked so perfectly in tandem with its heightened horror thrills.
And while Young sadly wasn't recruited back for this new film, it's tough to feel too short-changed given the fine work offered by his replacement - Bruckner's regular collaborator Ben Lovett.
At once, Lovett offers up a musical score which eventually invokes Young's glorious original arrangements in thrilling style, while also delivering enough of its own aural personality.
Lovett smartly splits the difference by both nodding regularly to Young's work but also unfurling his own extension of it, ensuring the score is easily one of Hellraiser '22's strongest suits.
