Hellraiser Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
1. It's The Best Hellraiser Film In DECADES
And finally, though the new Hellraiser isn't great, fans can rest easy that it's by far the best movie the franchise has produced in literally decades and decades.
Fans may disagree on whether it's the best Hellraiser since the first or second movie, but it's tough to imagine many feeling that anything from Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth or beyond is better than this.
Between the clear love and money poured into the technical aspects and its general filmmaking competence compared to the schlocky straight-to-video efforts of the last two decades, it's quite the breath of fresh air.
Hopefully a sequel might learn from this film's mistakes and deliver something more assured - and, bluntly, shorter - but it's nothing if not a sturdy foundation on which more, hopefully better follow-ups could be produced.
Simply, it's great to be intrigued by the Hellraiser franchise once again, years after most fans had basically left it for dead.
