2. Smaug

The Battle of the Five Armies has a lot of ground to cover between where its predecessor left off and getting Bilbo back home safe and sound and the demise of Smaug is the first step. A fantastic creation whose scenes were exciting and tense in the final act of the second film, Smaug's one of the trilogy's coolest characters who gets to do a lot with so little screentime in the grand scheme of things. Like Fili and Kili, Smaug's fate is set in stone, but Smaug's not going down without a fight, laying waste to Lake-town and clearing the way for the titular conflict to take place. Though we're looking forward to seeing more of him as he attempts to fulfill his promise set forth in the final seconds of the last film, the moment Bard finally gets to use his Black Arrow to bring the beast down once and for all will undoubtedly be one of the series' most satisfying moments.
