Outside of Thorin, Fili and Kili are the two dwarves in his company with the most recognizable personalities, both in the films and Tolkien's book. As charmingly played by Dean O'Gorman and Aidan Turner, respectively, the dual demise of the two brothers as they defend their uncle is shocking in the book and will undoubtedly be an even bigger shock for their "film only" fans with no knowledge of how the finer points of this story play out, leading a tear or two hundred to be shed. While the integration of the Tauriel/Kili subplot still has a big question mark over how it will shake out for Tauriel, we severely doubt that it will have a bearing in sparing his life. Their deaths are a major consequence of the Battle of the Five Armies and a moment fans of the book have been expecting since the films were announced. As such, we're certain Jackson will give them the epic and poignant send-off they deserve.
