4. Faramir
Son of Denethor, mad man with disgusting eating habits, and younger brother to Boromir, in whose shadow he always lived, Faramir was heroic and haunted. A character best described as "easy on the eyes," he was also a gentleman of honor and integrity, a great and loyal friend to all that he met. Every film needs a good man, a character that you know will do the right thing, no matter the cost to himself. He would have been a better-suited fit over his brother Boromir as part of the Fellowship (at least in terms of moral obligations). I'm not sure how he could have been woven into the Hobbit story, exactly, but I would not have complained at seeing his worthy face during the course of the narrative.
