Hocus Pocus 2 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
4. The Underwhelming New Leads
Though it was always likely that Hocus Pocus 2 would move on from the original film's young heroes Max and Dani Dennison (Omri Katz and Thora Birch), the three new leads sadly can't hold a candle to that appealing pair.
Teen pals Becca, Izzy, and Cassie - who accidentally end up conjuring the Sanderson sisters back to life - are ultimately underwhelming protagonists because they're lacking in much personality at all.
Instead, the film positions them as a trio mirror image of the Sandersons, especially with Becca herself being an aspiring witch who, predictably, uses that to her advantage when facing off against them.
Despite solid performances from the actresses themselves, the characters fall far short of the charm and likeability of the Dennison siblings from the original movie.
